Nicholas, as I'm sure you already know, I like yours as well... and I think I know why you like your room icon corner better.... it's closer together and it's more 'private' feeling...could that be why?

I dug up and scanned a picture of Mary's old icon corner:

I just took some pics of our current (temporary) icon corner, which is much smaller than the above pic, though I'm not sure when the film will be developed.

On a related subject, Mary and I have often hoped that someday we could have a small room devoted to prayer (a "home church" at it's fullest). Has anyone ever had anything like this? And if so, how did it work out?[/img]

Mary,

That is Saint Nektarios of Aegina!! The picture above that is another one of him after his repose. The top row from left to right is: Elder Ephraim, Elder Joseph, Saint Nektarios, and Saint Nikolaj of Serbia. The bottom : Saint Justin Popovich and Saint Nektarios. The good news is I got a bunch more cardboard today so I think it's time for some new icons and pictures!

Here is a list of pretty much everything:

East wall icons:
top: The Holy Myrrh bearers, Saint Mary of Egypt, Saint John of San Francisco, Saint Anthony the Great, Saint Justin Popovich, Saint Herman of Alaska and Saint Nikolaj
Bottom: Saint Dimitrios the Great Martyr, an Athonite Panagia (OOD do you know the name?), The Theotokos of Jasna Gora, and Saint Vincent of Lerins

North (incorrecrly labeled as west!) wall:
Top: Saint John the Baptist, an icon of Christ with branches leading to a mini icon of each of Elder Ephraim's North American monasteries, Saint Nektarios and on the bookcase is Father Seraphim of Platina.
bottom: Elder Joseph the Hesychast

Table:
The big icon of the Theotokos is the Panagia of Arizona. The real life version of this at Saint Anthony's is simply amazing. Propped against the wood is a Theotokos from a monastery in Ellwood City one the readers at church gave me, then is a icon of the ladder of Divine Asent, not really visable is a small icon of the Holy Trinity.
Next row: The Abbess of the Holy Mountian, another icon of the Theotokos, the Panagia of Voolkaniotissa, a smaller but the same otherwise icon of Christ, Saint Nicholas, and Saint Nektarios
front row: Saint Anastasia mother of Saint Savva of Serbia (this was given to me by the Serbian women's monastery in Safford, AZ -she is the patroness of their church), the next one my friend gave me from the Holy Mountain it is the Panagia Gorgoopikoos, the prayer rope above the HTM prayerbook was given to me by a priest, Father Nektarios, an icon of the Pantokrator, lastly a smaller prayer rope given to me by Mother Michaela the abbess of the above mentioned Serbian monastery.

Question of corners

Post by TomS »

I had read that icon corners are supossed to face east. Is that something that you considered important when you set up your corners?

It's part of the tradition handed down directly from the Apostles (and Christ) that we should pray facing east (St. Basil mentions this in his Treatise on the Holy Spirit, among others). If I see someone praying in a direction other than east I'm not gonna bang them over the head for it, but if someone asks, then I'd insist as strongly as I could that people pray facing east (even if they can't have their icons facing east).

Besides the icons I listed in my other post and the ones above are then any essential ones I am missing?
