GREAT FAST :: Fasting Schedule 2007

Post by Грешник »

Just in case this may be of some help to others I shall post this here.

2007 GREAT FAST Schedule

All dates on the secular Gregorian Calendar:

This week is the week of the Pharisee and the Publican so there is no fasting this week.

Next week is the week of the Prodigal Son and fasting is normal.

Feb. 11th is Meatfare Sunday and the last day we eat meat.

Feb 12th is the beginning of Cheesefare Week when we can eat fish, dairy, eggs, and oil.

Feb. 18th is Forgiveness Sunday/Cheesefare Sunday and that is the last day we eat up all the last of our dairy, fish & eggs.

Feb. 19th is the beginning of Great lent and Clean Week. No meat, dairy, eggs, etc. until Pascha. Oil on weekends only.

The exceptions to this rule is the 21st & 23rd of March when we can have oil because the Great Canon falls on Thursday. Also on March 9th, we can have oil because it is Saint John Chrysostom's feast day

Palm Sunday is on April 1 and we can have fish that day. Pascha is on April 8th and after services we break-fast.

I hope that is of some help!

Thank you.

Wasn't there a site that had a downloadable calendar pdf or ical file each month? I can't remember if it was father alexander's site or somewhere else. Wherever it was, I would like to find that again.
