before we ask any questions, we must first ask ourselves "Are we in our own lives without sin?" if so then we have the right to question and accuse, BUT if we are guilty of sin, it is better to repent and allow God to guide our Bishops,as he has been doing....
Metropolitan Laurus trying to heal the break in the Church isnt wrong, if he started when he was a child- it still isnt wrong, it shows that he Loves God, His Church and he suffered at the hands of a divided Church...Do you think that God would allow bad people into His Church to fool his servants and handmaidens? GOD is all powerful and he would strike them down in a second...Remember to Trust in God foremost, because sinning against the Holy Spirit is deadly to the soul and one`s temporal life on earth.

"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world, rather than on Christ" (Colossians 2:8).

Spiridon,

Code: Select all

I agree with you about not judging others when we ourselves are sinners. On the other hand, it must surely not be pleasing to God for our holy heirarchs and seminarians to be fraternizing with--or working for--a secular organization like the KGB/FSB, or whatever it is called now. The leaders of the Russian Federation, and of the Moscow Patriarchate, have surely been steeped in the worldview and culture of Leninism. President Putin has publicly proclaimed on Interfax this week that "religion" is as important as nuclear weapons for the defense of the Russian Federation. Did our Lord Jesus Christ establish the Holy Church as a tool for secular states and realpolitiks? If we do not exercise some discernment about what is happening within the Church, we might just as well say that people should have unquestioned obedience to Pope Benedict of Rome. We must exercise some measure of judgment and testify honestly about matters relating to the Church. Although we are truly sinners, and perhaps no more than "feet" (in my own case), you and I are also part of Christ's mystical body, the Church.

Spiridon, I believe this assumption is incorrect. Throughout Church history God has allowed bad people into His Church. I'm not saying Metropolitan Laurus is good or bad since I am not able to make that decision for several reasons - but if you read the lives of saints there are many examples where God has allowed bad people into the Church.

Also,

Remember to Trust in God foremost, because sinning against the Holy Spirit is deadly to the soul and one`s temporal life on earth.

Although this is very true, and I do agree that there is a great temptation for people to dwell too much on these matters, yet I do think that you can't blame people when they question because they are scandalised by things going on in the Church. But probably in the long run it's best to try not to be enveloped by these scandals.

My two cents worth, thanks.

Those are good points, Helen. He said that there would be sheeps in wolves clothing, and that we must watch out for such.
