Acquiring relics

Post by Jean-Serge »

I would like to inform you that you can buy relic on ebay, including orthodox relics. Indeed, after Vatican II, catholics began to get rid of many things and some of them are now for sale. For instance, Saint Patrick's relics or Saint Ann's relics. Some are really cheap : less than 20 dolars.

Just make a research on ebay.com with the word "relic".

Christ is Risen!

Take a more careful look at what is actually being sold. eBay does not allow the sale of "human remains", what is being sold is a piece of cloth which has somehow had contact with the relics. Here is the note from the bottom of one such "relic" sale:

As per Ebay's new rules, this item is allowed as it contains no human remains but objects of devotion; the relics are 2nd class relics of stone, wood and cloth. Please note that you bid on the precious antique reliquary, the relic is a gift to the High Bidder.

Also there are pieces of the cross in some reliquaries, but I don't know how reliable they are.

INDEED HE IS RISEN!

The idea of selling relics is pathetic. I guess this is what society has become. Even selling artifacts and blessed objects is deplorable. We shouldn't trust anybody that tries to SELL relics or such...they are most obviously lying.

These holy treasures should be given to people from others. I have two pieces of the rock of the Burning Bush. But, they were a gift.

years ago several Latin Priests whom were apart from the Vatican(sedenvacists-the believe that the Throne of St.Peter has been vacant. the word means "not Sitting" in Latin) started to sell relics- THERE IS A BIG CAUTION, as lay people should not have human relics at home anyway, unless you have been given a Blessing by the governing Bishop, and of course have a space dedicated for these Holy Things...
What the Latin Priests were selling, many people told were not correct- and they even forged the stamp of the Vatican on them.

we shouldnt even think about purchasing...

Yes, but I think some of them are really true relics. We could buy them for private devotion. At least, in Western Europe, it was a tradition for some noble families to have private relics in their private chapels. Otherwise, we could offer them to a parish...

It is considered simony to buy or sell relics, so usually people pay for a reliquary along, but one that comes with relics in it. But with eBay you rarely know if the relics are authentic or not.
