An Old Parable

Post by Liudmilla »

This seemed appropriate considering recent posts.....

The once there was a man who felt overburdened by his trials and tribulations, which he blamed on God. Nothing pleased him and he sent up a continuous tirade of prayers to God. After months of listening God finally had enough and sent a Saint to the man.

The Saint appeared in a dream to the man and told him that God had heard his prayers. The Saint would take him to choose a new cross. The Saint lead him to a huge mountain of crosses of every type and size. Pointing to the mountain, he told the man, "Since you felt that the cross assigned to you was too heavy, God will allow you to choose any other cross that you want from this mountain."

The man searched and searched until he finally picked the smallest cross he could find. Raising it up he said to the Saint, "This is the one I want!"

The Saint looks at him in exasperation and says, "But that's the one you had!"

So be careful what you ask for and rejoice in what you have been given!

You can either wallow in self-pity or try to find the benefit you are missing.

Excellent advice! I think this approach should be applied to everything in our life - always.
