Introduction and questions

Post by Joe Zollars »

Hi. My nam is Joe Zollars. I followed Nik here from Orthodoxchristianity.net. What a wonderful site this is!

I am currently RC, but am begining to think that the RC's (and those in communion with them) are not the true Church and are therefore outside of authentic Christianity. I am seriously considering Converting to Orthodoxy, however I plan to do so as a Western Rite Orthodox Christian. I love the East, but the traditions of the west are my spiritual home.

I have a couple of questions:

First of all, are there any other Kansans here? Does ROCOR even have a presence in Kansas?

Also, what is the position of the Western Rite within ROCOR at this time?

Dear Joe,

Welcome aboard. I am glad to see that God is leading you to Orthodoxy. The path is slow and hard, but well worth it. As far as ROCOR goes, years they do have a few western Rite missions and churches. I know of 2 in Australia and one of the 3 or 4 in North America is in Rhode Island run by a monk. It is a monastery and a mission. I have very little info on these sadly. However the Western-Rite one is australia can be found at http://www.rocor.org.au/stpetrocmonastery/index.html and http://www.rocor.org.au/ststephenchurch/index.html -perhaps they could give you the information about the Western Rite in ROCOR.

At this time, I do not know of any ROCOR presence in Kansas, but I would reccomend contacting nearby parishes, as often in these mission churches, a priest will drive 3 hours or more to take care of his flock. Here is the information for nearby states:

OKLAHOMA: http://directory.sjkp.org/parishes.php? ... tonName=Go

MISSOURI: http://directory.sjkp.org/parishes.php? ... tonName=Go

May God Bless you in your journey to Holy Orthodoxy.

Welcome to the forum, Joe. I'm also not aware of any ROCOR parishes in Kansas. I hope you can find what you need to find, and I'll be praying for you. I don't know if relocation is an option for you, I realise it's not possible or practical for everyone. may the Lord be with you :)
