Alternative medicine discussion

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Yes, natural oils are much more powerful and safe for the human body. It is strange that a company has not created a mass produced hand santiser that uses essential antibiotic oils. Instead they market these toxic chemicals. You both have so many great ideas and info. Thanks

I think I have seen some natural hand sanitizers for sale. Trader Joes had one but it was discontinued due to lack of sales.

I think those Purell vials were ...vile !
Just kidding - but they were so unappealing. Who would want to carry that around constantly ?

What I feel is the sensible solution is to carry around a little bottle of something like
Desert Essence's Organic Lavender-Tea Tree Oil and just put a few drops on your hand[s].

This is the healthiest thing.

No questions about how even with "natural hand sanitizers", are there deleterious chemicals sneaking along
to maybe make the liquid pour better ?

The only way to be sure is to use PURE and Organic of both of these combined.
because there are SO MANY synthetics billed as "essential oils of lavender/ or tea tree"
that one has to be extremely careful. Too many firms capitalized on the curren popularity of aromatherapy.
I dont trust that "young living oils" at all by the way... would never use their products.

Also, it is good to avoid those purell type of sanitizers which eradicate all bacteria from your hands, because I have heard from some people that if you deprive people of all bacterial exposure their immune systems will become weak since the immune system develops strength and effectiveness precisely by being exposed to bacteria and developing antibodies. (I am thinking this could be especially true of the generation of children now growing up with this constantly).

^ In cultures where one eats with the right hand, as in Asia,
it is popularly accepted that there are actually ENZYMES which are secreted through the hands,
hence to better digest one's food.
If this IS true, then that would provide another reason why not to use Purell or other anti-bacterial sanitizers
chock full of chemicals on the hands. At least, not before dinner for much of the world !

It's true that when Americans travel, they get sick faster than any other nationality, especialy Europeans.
It's because ALL the food is so 'Homogenized" that there aren't any natural bacteria of benefit to aid digestion.
Then when an average American goes to for example, Greece, he or she will become ill for no other reason than
the food is not over-homogenized/pasteurized, etc.

As it's wintertime again [yes, this discussion took place last January ! Difficult to imagine how quickly the time went by]
I thought I would post this link so that those unfamiliar with Goodger Balm [my play on the name]
will learn a little from reading the reviews. These don't say much more than Maria's clear directions.
But the reviews could galvanize some of us into getting Badger Balm for our anti=medicine chest !

I keep forgetting to apply it, but when I do remember, it REALLY helps. I try to use it first thing in the morning
so as to give time for it to soak in throughout the day. I don't see that it is AS oily as these reviewers warn.
Should that be a consideration for readers here, at least one is prepared. I assume that most of the reviewers
do not use regularly other essential oils or Olive Oil, etc. Thus the Badger Balm seems especially so to them.

To me, it is completely normal.

Below is an interesting article on how to distill Tree Tea Oil in your own home: I have only posted one tiny excerpt so please go ahead and read the entire article.

http://articles.mercola.com/herbal-oils ... acebookdoc

  • Large-scale tea tree oil manufacturers use steam distillation to extract the product.15 But if you have fresh tea tree leaves on hand, you can easily make this oil. Here's a step-by-step process from OfftheGridNews.com:16

    Code: Select all

Put the leaves in a pot and cover with water. Place a vegetable steamer in the pot over the top of the leaves and water.
Put a measuring cup inside the steamer.
Place the lid on the pot upside down, so that the handle nub in the center is pointing toward the measuring cup.
Boil the water to steam the leaves. The water will condense and evaporate, and the condensation will slide toward the handle and into the measuring cup.
Put about four ice cubes on top of the upside down pot lid to hasten the steam condensation.
Turn off the heat once all the ice has melted.
Take off the lid and pour the ice cube water into the sink, and then remove the glass measuring cup.
Pour the measuring cup contents into a separating funnel, but make sure the stopcock at the bottom of the funnel is closed. Close the top of the funnel and shake vigorously.
Invert the funnel and then open to release the pressure. The oil will float to the top of the water, effectively separating the two substances.
Put a glass bottle beneath the stopcock and release the water. Pour the oil into a tinted glass bottle.
Repeat the process up to three more times to pull more oil from the leaves.

Note: Off the Grid has a lot of crazy ideas that may not be safe nor legal. Proceed at your own risk.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
