While this heart specialist, Dr Arvind Gandhi, was exposed as criminally performing heart procedures which were unnecessary and dangerous for his victims, one wonders how many MORE such cardiologists are undiscovered ?
I would be very careful about choosing the correct physician in any field but particularly a few with high payoffs :
"In recent years, federal officials have brought several prominent cases against cardiologists and hospitals, accusing them of performing unnecessary procedures like inserting stents into coronary arteries. While medical professionals say there is no indication that cardiology has more unnecessary procedures than, say, orthopedics, they do note that the specialty has come under increased scrutiny by regulators because the procedures tend to be reimbursed by Medicare and private insurance at significantly higher levels than those in many other specialties.
“Cardiology, whether we like it or not, is generally a big moneymaker for hospitals,” said Dr. Steven Nissen, chief of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic and the former president of the American College of Cardiology. “We are still a fee-for-service system, and that creates, in my view, misaligned incentives among some physicians to do more procedures and among some institutions, particularly in areas where there is not tight medical supervision, to turn a blind eye and enjoy the high revenue stream.”

Another field where abuses seem to be frequent is oncology. Also in the Mid West, a Detroit specialist, Dr Farid Fata,
was recently convicted of scamming Medicare for a whopping 34 million dollars ! Worse, though, the unrepentant fraudster damaged 553 patients, telling them various falsities about their state of health so that he could collect from Medicare from unncessary chemotherapy and other procedures.
This is why some of us here advocate natural means of healing wherever possible. It is often too dangerous to trust the diagnoses and ethics of allopathic medicine's 'superstars' : those claiming expertise in such high-ticket fields of specialty.
Then there are the ones who are practicing with faked credentials...
What happened to the Holy Unmercenary Physicians, such as Sts Cosmas and Damian ?! Even if charging no money is unrealistic today, asking reasonable fees and not inflating the patient's medical problem in order to extract more money from medical care plans seems a reasonable goal for an honorable physician today.
We need perhaps to ask the intercession of St John Maximovitch, who saved many from a simpler, more innocent type of unnecessary operation. He prayed to God to cure the person, thus rendering the procedure unneeded.
And of course to ask the help of St Panteleimon and other Saints in determining what is best for each individual : should one consult a doctor at all might be the wisest first question to implore help with from God's Saints !
Or would it better if one suspects a cance diagnosis, to obtain holy oil from the Pantanassa Icon of the Mother of God and pray to Her ?
