Democrats with Cia backgrounds ? That is so odd, since traditionally that agency was associated with the Right, and conservative, patriotic people. Same with the Army and military services. But all that changed with the latter sometime in the later 80s or 90s, I guess.
If you had said Republicans with Cia backgrounds, I would have thought that more normal. Cia backgrounds are not necessarily bad, but in recent years, of course, so much negative stuff has been pulled off that one can not applaud the Cia any more.
I always say that the best thing it EVER did [ opposite to the opinion of every Democrat and many Republicans ] was to put the Shah back on the Peacock Throne of Iran [ though that unbelievably lavishly jeweled throne was stolen from the Moghul Emperors, it was not Iranian to begin with...perhaps something did come back around in that situation ]. But no one that I have ever heard of in this country espouses this idea.
Still, to me, for once, the Cia did intervene to HELP a situation. That horrible Mohammad Mossadegh was a nightmare from every point of view. A liberal who was supplanted with the rightful ruler of "The Empire of Iran" as it used to be called in those days - at least, on its own passports !
Other foreign interventions spearheaded by Langley were not quite so crystal clear as good ideas. Some were outright trespassing on the rights of other countries, along with much manipulation applied behind the scenes.
Then, too, where was the Cia when interventions were really needed ? Such as when Tibetans were fending off the aggressive and evil Communist Chinese taking over their country.Feeble efforts were made to assist the Tibetans, but the Cia did little and gave up.
