UK's Great Estates

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

UK's Great Estates

Post by Barbara »

A peaceful sojourn to the English countryside - but a sad denouement for the family who owned this Dorset estate called Bridehead.
I have heard of some "stately homes", as they are called over there, but not this one. It's probably not on that level.
Nonetheless, it's sad to see the estate apparently abandoned like this.

It was not specified WHY the house was being sold.
Perhaps taxes, high maintenance, or it needed too costly repairs at this juncture ?

I think the same guy has an account Conor Lynch. He writes that the very old collection of books in the library was "dispersed" today

Look how much that armchair has been used over the years, maybe even a century or more ?

Another account, a monarchist, wrote regarding this post :

"Unfortunately, the British Parliament has, since 1846, been committed to the destruction of the aristocracy and its replacement with an anonymous and international tycoon class.

Many cheered this on, tragically unaware that the oligarchs are coming for them next."
