Re Francis and Clare: OK. I know they don't have halos on Schmemann, Mother Maria, Pope Paul VI, Dorothy Day, or Michael Ramsey.

Um, yeah, people will get confused. An Orthodox monastery selling images of a religious figure outside the church. Then, people will start to think, was he really outside the church, does it really matter if we are Orthodox or Catholic?

As for comparing Francis to St. Seraphim, I read an interesting article in Orthodox Life a while back, which explained precisely why that isn't an accurate comparison.

francis and clare-OK? why in the world would any so-called orthodox church have icons of francis of assisi (or is it assisi-i always forget that) and clare, his disciple, who started the female version of the franciscans? they are not orthodox saints, in no way shape or form. anyone here know about the actions of the franciscans in croatia during world war 2? what these namesakes of francis of assisi (or is it assisi-i always forget that) did to the orthodox serbs in croatia during world war 2 is another reason that an icon of saint francis in an orthodox church is a repugnant thing indeed. and if you dont know, start with forced conversion, then continue on to torture and murder and agonizing death in concentration camps run by-you guessed it-a franciscan! according to orthodox tradition, you might as well have a picutre of pope paul VI on the wall...oh-they have that too! i think this is a fine example of "if the bishop permits it we mustn't criticize" run totally amok and taken to bizarro-world. an alternate reality...where white is black, 2+2 is 77, and anything else the bishop sez is whatever he sez it is, an dont go mentionin them thar canon thangs....cuz we dont go by that stuff here ya know cuz we gots us a bishop that knows a whole bunch better than that stuff...yep, he does...

Assisi

Mwoerl:

It is Assisi (No one ever called Francis A Sissi again)

They are "former" fransiscans who never really left it behind. I just got a mailing from these people the other day. What kind of Orthodox Monk runs a puppy mill?

Yes, many have little idea what the Ustashi in cooperation with the Franciscans did to the Serbs.

And most have no idea how the Vatican helped Nazi war criminals escape to South America.
