Old Calendarists in Communion with the EP switch Calendars??

i know he did not go with paisios on the EP adventure-i wrote to antony g. shortly after that to ask about some historical stuff, and he told me he did not join the EP with paisios and vikentios. it was some time back that i read somewhere-maybe church news?- that he was accepted by met. valentin, again, i think only as a retired bishop, living in his apt. in nyc-as he will not actually DO anything-probably does not even serve often, except perhaps in fr vladimir shishkoff's church, maybe he woudl not be listed in any directory. also, truth be told, he is not a real popular guy.

he would not go with ROCiE as met vitaly and antony do not like each other, to put it mildly. he wanted to be back in a "russian" church-nowhere else to go but to Met Valentin-again, there is the conection between antony and fr vladimir shishkoff-so, there ya have it.

i was not aware that antoony had anytoing to do with any convent-i thought that he pretty much kept to himself, other than the odd appearance at one of paisios' shindigs . . . pre-EP, that is . . .

In general, I can see why. But he becomes a "bishop" of the ROAC in 2001. The old calendar "jedinovjertsy" (sic!) were received/betrayed I believe in 1998. In those three years I believe he was a member of +paisios' faction as he did not remain with the Florinites. The Convent was linked to him. The "jedinovjerchestvo" of these old calendarists with the ep was done at the behest of +spyridon and recognized by +bartholomeos. The ephraimites kept a distance from it as it was seen as a political liability to their ambitions. Anyway, when +spyridon's party fell--the ephraimites abandoned him too--one of the first orders of the new regime after the elder being ordered into retirement and virtual house arrest in Arizona, was the abolition of this old calendar diocese. They were simply told one morning that they were either new calendar or they were considered "schismatic" by the new regime. The ephraimites flirted with threats and links to the Serbs and JP, but ultimately stayed put when they were put under the thumb but did not lift one finger for the old calendarists. They did gain some stature. They are, however, responsible for the formation of the JP diocese in America. They sold it to their new calendar overlords on three grounds:
1). A political maneuver against the antiochians by proxy, but the ep oversees the JP exarchate. They also were involved in the assimilation of the hermanites into Orthodoxy and specifically directed them to the Serbs, the OCA, the Bulgarians, BUT NOT ROCOR! This allows them influence over disaffected antiochians and their institutions and RESOURCES and prevents them from, God forbid!, going to ROCOR or some other "old calendarist body".
2). A political wedge designed to stall the influence of old calendarist resisters and quiet bodies like ROCOR which the hope is will "return to the fold" and/or lose influence, institutions and power. They won out.
3). Establishing the ability to centralize and control an "acceptible" Traditionalist message which will silence resistance to apostate "world orthodoxy".
They have succeeded to some extent. Once the pressure is gone, however, they will suffer the same fate they have toiled to bring upon the resisters.

Absolutely, +vartholomeos is overseeing it. That and the puhalo nonsense of some of its jurisdiction hopping members is why I have nothing to do with it.

Spyridon was gone in 1999. St Irene's switched to the New Calendar in Sept 2003. If it had anything to do with Spyridon, why did it take 4 years?

Just in August Met. Alexios of Atlanta celebrated the Divine Liturgy for the Old Calendar feast of St Irene at the monastery anyway...very confusing to me. Are you sure Paisios didn't just switch of his own initative? It would make sense if he is hoping that maybe he could become a GOA bishop with a real diocese.

In November, 1999 I was at the Monastery of St. Antony the Great in Florence, AZ, right after the end of +spyridon. They were passing out icons from that Convent. I began speaking with one of the monks there and told him jokingly, "See, you could be old calendar too?!"
He looked at me and said, "Oh really? You know what happend to these old calendarists? They received a phone call recently and were told that either they are on the new calendar or they are now schismatics." St. Antony's is a centre of "intelligence" in the Greek Orthodox world. The person I talked to was not uninformed. The fact that it took so long to happen shows that +paisios probably went through a series of appeals with his communities before conforming, the new calendarists taking time in phasing in their calendar schism. The information I received was sensitive and accurate.

The local GOA parishes out here aren't too happy with the JP presence. If the EP was running the JP in America, wouldn't the GOA not care? Also what does Archbishop Lazar have to do with the JP? Thanks
