Moronikos:

I was born into a family that was loosily affiliated with a SBC (Southern Baptist Convention for those who don't know) but which later went to an "Independent Bible" Church which was for all intents and purposes the same, but with some differences.

In my teen years I gave up on Christianity because all I knew was the protestant fundamentalist perversion thereof. I went through the american "buddhists," a wicca-like group, and a few other occult groups.

In my later teen years I became a Romanist (of the conservative NO variety) under a cleric who was already a romanist cleric with his own parish during WWII. He was the stripe of romanist who may very well have slept in his cassock. When he retired I moved up here to Kansas.

I remained with the NO group for about 1 more year. I in this time discovered other people who, unlike the vast majority of others in the novus ordo parishes I attended, actually believed the teachings of the papist sect, particularly in the area of morality. These people were a mix of Indultees, SSPXers (out of St. Mary's KS), and even one very nice SSPV family not to mention some very nice families that assisted at independent chapels. I came to love the Latin Mass through these people, but it was not just hte Mass I loved because I was the type of traditionalist that wasn't one for the ascetics of hte chant, latin, etc. I was a traditionalist on moral and theological reasons.

I began to assist at all these chapels, but had growing Sedevacantist tendincies and these were nurtured by readings from other sedevacantists to the point I became an outright sedevacantist.

Now there are many other issues regarding the variosus phapses of my spiritual life thusfar but I see no point in dredging them all up.

Now I will say in Juvenaly's defense, I was turned away from the Novus Ordites for a very similar reason. I had an interview with the novus ordo "bishop" of Wichita at that time. somehow in the interview the subject of liturgical abuses came up and he asked me what my opinion was on how to solve the problems with the new missal. Without thinking of a more diplomatic answer I said "a match." He labeled me as a crazy and I was stopped right there from going into a NO seminary (Thank God!).

I have at times Moronikos, financially supported the Legion of Doom (Legion of Christ), the SSPV, the CMRI, the FSSP, the SSPX, the SSJC, and numerous independent chapels not to mention both "Pope Pius XIII" and "Pope Michael I". The SSPX seminarian that I gave regular support to was a personal friend who had fled the Novus Ordites. He is currently in the process of leaving the SSPX for an independent (a decidely sedevacantist one) chapel. I can see where one could make the mistake of thinking I was an SSPXer, but I was not one.

Orthodox Learner,

never mind these fellows who tend to go off topic with some things. They are like you, only learning. It is good you call yourself learner, you know you are in no position to preach or argue. All the arguements are forgotten in time, but we must be careful not to wound, we will answer for every idle word. A bit sad how this thread turned out, so be merciful to the others who are also escaping from the Catholic mess and finding a home in Orthodoxy. It is your choice where you are recieved and in following your Fathers advice, you bring Gods blessing upon yourself as long as your intention is pure He will know what your heart desires and everything is in his care. Whatever you go through in your conversion, remember that Jesus promised us tribulation and persecution so be thankful for these sufferings and be happily broken by circumstances like our meek and merciful Savior. If we dont want to take these things for our purification but still seek virtue and paradise, bigger trials are given until we wake up to the power of patient and uncomplaining endurence. Our so-called enemies are really our friends because they give us cause to pray and seek divine help, while sometimes our friends on this earth want to make us happy and comfortable and feel good about ourselves and hinder us with distractions and dreams. These are the best lessons to learn for you now since you have decided, with your Fathers blessing to join Antioch Church, leave the other questions about ROCOR etc. for later, when they come up as you have already said, in the future.

I dont think Im here to teach or advise, Im just passing on some things I wish had taken to heart when I converted. The way of the Gospel is the way of interior revolution and transformation. It is the greatest treasure and most precious jewel of eternal truth and life. Jesus reverses this evil time and makes things new. Give glory and thanks and be careful of the seductive negativity and gossip that often passes for useful conversation within Orthodox circles. I am happy for you and thank God so many of the people here have escaped the Catholics deception, you are all brave soldiers and if I could I would give you medals.

Today's Christians seem to want to be nicer than God is.

Orthodox learner,
My wife converted to orthodoxy about a year after we met. Her family has become curious as a result. They used to be non practicing catholics but have since began going to church more frequently. Although they have not joined orthodoxy they ask a lot of questions regarding our fasts , saints and icons and have gotten closer to God . So her conversion did some good for the rest of her family.
