Nicholas, I usually exchange gifts and have something to eat with my parents and family. They understand, even though they are not always understanding - this is a special time for them, whether I recognize it the same way or not; and I suppose it is also special for me.

But I do like to get this whole gift exchange distraction out of the way before the true Nativity comes. It actually works out quite well.

For the children, I make the distinction by calling the new calendar dec. 25 "Christmas", and the Nativity of the Lord, "the Nativity".

This is essentially what we will be doing. We also make the same distinction between Western 'Christmas' and Orthodox 'Nativity'.
