This is one strange handshake. Looks like Obama is really squeezing hard.

Yes, Putin seems to be looking down as if in pain. The two almost seem to be arm wrestling as this is a very unusual pose.
However, Obama's thumb does look like it is pressed into Putin's knuckle. It is just obscured in that photo.

Looks like a likely either an attempty by O. at masonic hand wringing or a strongarm tactic.
Look at O's face : he looks like a 3 year old making sure his 5 year old older brother is getting whatever message he intends to convey
delivered by brute force !

Putin seems to be avoiding showing how painful the grip is : one feels sorry for him.

Entirely disconcerting picture.
