Beware of "Equal" and ALL fake sweetenings !

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Beware of "Equal" and ALL fake sweetenings !

Post by Barbara »

There was the headline about Aspartame [which I like to pronounce with an e with accent aigu on the end !]
being approved in Europe today.

Following a link, however, led me to Maria's favorite health site, mercola.com.
In a number of articles, this site warns in the strongest terms about dangers of using Aspartame [or any sugar substitute] :

"... in an article titled "An Aspartame Nightmare." John Cook began drinking six to eight diet drinks every day. His symptoms started out as memory loss and frequent headaches. He began to crave more aspartame-sweetened drinks. His condition deteriorated so much that he experienced wide mood swings and violent rages... He also showed abnormal brain function and brain damage.

[My paragraphing here to emphasize: ]
After he kicked his aspartame habit, his symptoms improved dramatically."

So watch out for the hidden Aspartame in "diet" soda and cake mixes and probably massive amounts of
typical food and drink consumed today.

I believe that Monsanto bought out the original company which produced Equal, a powdered and tableted sweetener for
beverages. It used to be available in any coffee place or restaurant.
As I never go into these, I am not sure whether the free blue packets of Equal have been removed, or not.
Anyone know ?
