Yesterday I was looking for an icon of New Martyrs and found this "icon" of Moscow partiarchate.
You can see there St.Joseph of Petrograd, St. Kirill of Kazan and St. Eugene of Rostov who were killed together at the same night. But only St. Kirill is depicted as a saint. Two others definitely did not satisfy MP.

Now, I admit I have never heard of St Evgeny of Rostov !
I am very interested in Rostov-Veliky Saints and holy people such as Metropolitan Jonah of Rostov,
a great confessor of the faith in my personal opinion. Never canonized, though.
So what is the story of St Evgeny ? And you do mean Rostov-Veliky, not Rostov-on-Don, right ?

St Kirill of Kazan is of course famous. He and St Joseph of Petrograd are commemorated in the vigils always.
But St Evgeny of Rostov ?
As an artistic note, the peaked caps of the Bolsheviks look like medieval warriors. I have never
seen the Bolsheviks depicted on any icon. Let alone in this style. In this tableau, the Communist executionerss DO succeed in looking as evil as they actually were.
Then, why does the MP officialdom reject St Joseph of Petrograd ?? I assume some of the rank and file
believe in him as a Saint.
This is exactly the uniform of the Bolsheviks in these years. This uniform was designed by St. Tzar Nicolas by the samples of Old Russian warriors before the revolution, it was prepared by Russian soldiers, but is was seized and used by the Bolsheviks when revolution happened, so this is the uniform of the enemies. This is how they looked like (I am sorry to put this picture. but it is better to know them).
They are in many icons of New Martyrs, for example this beautiful icon of ROCOR:

If St. Evgen was glorified by the ROCOR, then with the MP union, is he still venerated by the ROCOR?

MP venerates (a little) only St.John of San-Francisco. All the rest saints of ROCOR are not venerated there.
And MP says that St.John of San-Francisco was for Moscow Patriarchate.

Wha- a - a - t ? About that last statement. You mean the MP co-opted him ?
Pretending he was in favor of them ? This is a VERY IMPORTANT POINT !
I assumed since the MP always has people visiting his relics or trying to do so,
that they venerate him as much as Rocor does.
Based on firsthand experience, I thought this was the case.
When I was in Moscow, I needed to ask some favor from the Publishing Dept related
to my topic of interest. I was sent from building to building in different locations in search of someone knowledgeable
enough to answer my question. Official after official had really nice relics of St John which
shocked me : this was in the mid 90s, not now. They all not only knew about St John but
had better relics in their possession already than most all the Rocor members I have heard of !
This disparity was ironic, especially if the MP doesn't fully venerate him.
Please explain more, Alexander, what their attitude actually is !
They added him to their Saints, but you are saying they are - what ? Lukewarm at best toward him ?
I still remember when one official asked me which jurisdiction I was from in America.
I said, "Rocor". He froze in shock. I still remember the horrified look on his countenance !
I smiled, "It was the Church that St John of Shanghai selected !"
He couldn't reply.
So now they are somehow claiming that he was for the MP, after all ?

That black and white picture is amazing. I thought I had seen a lot of photos from that era - but
I guess I hadn't ! I never saw a helmet like THAT !
It's so curious looking. Maybe like a medieval knight in Germany ?
I didn't exactly understand what you said about the Tsar designing the uniforms based on
older Russian military styles ?
Do you know from which era he chose the helmet look ?
And was this the uniform of the Imperial Russian Army, then seized by the Bolsheviks, literally ?
Was that because they were the rabble with no adequate attire, unable to afford
the chicest revolutionary getup ?! So they had to commandeer these helmets ?
Were they soft material ? Or metal ?
