Cigarette companies have designed worse cigarettes

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Cigarette companies have designed worse cigarettes

Post by Barbara »

I had only vaguely heard about this unsettling trend.

Apparently, cigarette companies are targeting younger people more than ever. Their hope is to get them
hooked early.

For changes in cigarettes, read this article.

http://www.catholic.org/news/health/story.php?id=55952

Excerpt :

"The addictiveness of cigarettes has also been increased by the raising of nicotine levels. Manufacturers also add ammonia, which increases the speed which nicotine is delivered to the brain.

Yet another tactic is to add sugars, which increase the addictive effects of nicotine and make it easier to inhale tobacco smoke.

By altering the taste and smell of cigarettes, tobacco manufacturers have made it easier for people to start and continue smoking.

Tobacco smoke has been rendered even less harsh by adding levulinic acid. This makes the smoke feel smoother and less irritating."

Article reveals that the makers of cigarettes are using flavors of Licorice and ugh, chocoalte, to hide the heavy smell of cigarettes. Very sneaky of them.

Most people, including us younger folks, are well aware of the dangers of cigarette smoking and have left them behind. The bad news however is that this has led much more people into trying marijuana, smokeless tobacco, and cigars/cigarillos.

This brings up the question of why tobacco isn't considered a food product and regulated as much as it is in Europe for example. This is partially why I prefer Swedish Snus compared to anything.

"'Blessed are the peacemakers' For those are peacemakers in themselves who, in conquering and subjecting to reason all the motions of their souls and having their carnal desires tamed, have become in themselves a Kingdom of God."-St. Augustine of Hippo (Confessions)
