Updates to Autonomous Russian Church Websites

Post by Suaidan »

It appears that St Basil of Kineshima Church and St Seraphim Church have redesigned their websites!

http://www.russianorthodox-roac.com
http://www.stseraphimchurch.org

Accordingly, we have updated our directory page at

http://www.stjohntherussian.com/directory.html

Enjoy!

Joseph,

I will spare your struggling soul the compliments on the websites :)

I was looking at the directory and noticed that Saint Basil of Kineshma Russian Orthodox Church, which is in Colorado, is not under Archbishop Gregory. This seems strange, him being limited to just Colorado and even then with some exception. Then I also saw that "Christ the Savior Orthodox Church" in MT is listed under him. Which is strange in the opposite way. Any reason for this?

That is good since he did not redesign the Saint Basil or Saint Seraphim sites. :-D

Yeah, that is odd. Why is that?

Well such a situation is hardly unique. For instance in Stratford, CT there in one ROCOR parish under Met Laurus of New York and Eastern America and another under Bp Gabriel of Manhattan and Dean of the South. I believe such situations also arise in New York and Massachusetts if memory serves. If a parish outside the boundaries on an archdiocese petitions the synod to be placed in another one, it is there prerogative. Saint Philaret was known to have moved a parish from one diocese to another as well, even.

Okay, I will ask: So why did your church petition to do so?
What was the perogative?

There are several ROCOR parishes like that. Also, there are parishes that don't commemorate the bishop of their region. I know for a fact that Boston's Holy Epiphany parish only commemorates Vl. Lavr, and not Bsp. Michael. As a matter of fact, Bsp. Michael has no authoratative power in the Boston deanery, and in my knowledge, since his taking the title has not visited a single Boston deanery parish (this isn't a bad thing, IMHO). The Boston deanery has the blessing of Vl. Met. Lavr not to commemorate Bsp. Michael.
Also I think several parishes in Texas have just switched to be under Chicago (I think they were under NY before).
