I became a catachument today! I am very happy about this.
I was thinking of what name to take when I am chrismated. Marie is my middle name and Fr. suggested we might use that.
However, on another board someone mentioned that today was a relatives name day and I asked what her name was and it is "Stavroula" which I believe is Greek.
Is there a Russian equivalent? (My parish has more of a Russian heritage than Greek.)

Often people take the names of saints on who's day they are baptised (often the day of baptism is chosen to honor the saint, if that makes sense, someone wanting to be Andrew choses December 13th for example).
You can choose a middle name, if you are very attached to it, and like a saint with the same name.
Try finding a saint with your same name, or close too it. I know a man named Willard, took the Christian name Vil (3rd century martyr). My cousin Laurie's patron is Lawrence. Many people think that their own name doesn't have a history, track your own name to see if it is related to that of a saint. (My cousin Meagan is baptized Meagan because it is related to Margaret).

I can take "Marie" as that is my middle name. But when I thought I might like "Stavroula" or the Russian equivalent name. (And my Priest says my first name, which is a very very unusual name is not associated with any Saint that he is aware of. He also said I don't have to pick a name and then have that day be the day I am chrismated. I can have any appropriate name and be chrismated when he feels I am ready.
What I really really want to know is if anyone knows a Russain equivalent for "Stavroula" or other name that represents the "Elevation of the Cross."
I might have a clue... I think for the masculin version of Staurus (Stavros in Greek, meaning Cross) is Krestov. I think... if this sounds logical... it might be in Russian Krestovia or Krestia. I don't know, I'm not sure.
Hopefully you mean Mary because Marie, is like the French version of Mary. Unless you are talking about the russian version of Mary, Marye.
The Priest said that I could be chrismated "Marie" because it is a name associated with Theotokos in some fashion, and it is my middle name.

I am a convert too and my mother named me Joanna. When I converted, I was also looking for a name, but then it occurred to me that this name was meant to be. I was meant to be named after one of the myrr-bearing women. I just knew that it was right. I will not get into the details, but it became very clear to me. If you want to talk about it, you can contact me.
You will also feel what is right for you. It is part of the grace of being called to God. He is talking to you loud and clear (after a few years, that fades away, but we will talk about that in 10 years). He has specific plans for you and a specific name. Listen to your heart, because God is sending you the message, just like He did when He called you(through the message in your heart). You know what your name should be. Don't intellectualize it, just go with what you truely feel in your heart.
