what have people come to?

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

This man obviously has some problems. We should pray for him, that's for sure.

'Prelest' or' Spiritual Delusion' can be a cruel phenomenon with terrible consequenses as we see from this sad news story.
Prelest can happen to any one of any denomination. We are all, to some degree, in spiritual delusion or prelest- that is, we all hold some beliefs which are erroneous (e.g. "the more I fast, the worthier I am"). Prelest happens in degrees. There is a monk on Mount Athos who sincerely believes that there is no Priest worthy to celebrate the Liturgy and give him Holy Communion, so he has been waiting for decades for an Angel to come and Commune him.
I don't think we should be so smug as to pray for others in prelest, believing that we are free from it and need no prayers.

"As long as it depends on Monothelitism, then Miaphysitism is nothing but a variant of Monophysitism."

I did not mean to portray any arrogance by my post and did not mean it in this light. Of course we all need prayers, but this man was, at the very least, mauled by a lion. He does not need our ridicule, but our prayers. I apologize to everyone if I came across smug in this regard.

And I ask your forgiveness for misinterpreting what you were saying.
