Im not quite sure exactly what you meant,But I was passed on by my
Pious Grandfather several traditions for lent.and one is to put up my
watches and jewelry(the 1 ring and necklace that I have)..at first i would get lost at not knowing what time it was,or I dont have my ring
that gives me worldly status, and dont forget my necklace it has a
good message that I have worldly style...I might not ever wear those things again after this year, for this tradition was given to me as a Latin rite Roman catholic,by my catholic grandfather.and this Bright Saturday i will Baptized and Chrismated in the Orthodox Faith(With Gods approval, that is).and Lent has never meant so much too me as it means now.there was so much that I missed as a catholic and now Im finally connecting the dots that Catholicism gave me as a child..
Glory be to Jesus Christ and The True Church he left us to carry from generation to generation........

As children, Great Lent always meant a decrease in the time spent watching TV and more time spent in reflection and prayer and with family.

As an adult we tried to get young people more involved with church. On Palm Sunday we always had a bake sale .... mostly Kulichi for people who did not make their own. On Good Friday it was the young people who gathered in the morning to decorate the seplicher and the church. And then the Hall for the Agape Breakfast on Sunday morning. We also gathered a group of older young people to clean the church during the sixth week of lent. Everyone was always very proud of the job that we did. Believe me ....it wasn't just surface cleaning...... we CLEANED and polished and scraped wax.... even got the cobwebs in the corners. The Altar boys used to be reponcible for the altar. Of course, the person in charge usually a woman would stand at the doors and say...."you missed a spot" or "Polish it so you can see you face in it!" :D Everyone always felt good when the compliments for the good job were heard.
