Saturday we celebrate St. Anne. My name is Terry Anne, even though my middle name is Anne, is it considered my second b'day?

a priest told me that the priest who baptises me will give me a new name, how does he know which name to give me?

Dear Terry,

When you are Baptized in the Orthodox Church you are give your name, which you take in honor of a saint. This becomes your "Name's Day" some will celebrate this instead of a birthday.

Some will be named after a saint on the day the become a catechumen, the day that they are Baptized, or the day of their birth. Often a convert will just pick a saint that (s)he is close to spiritually or one that has a name close to their given first or middle name.

I hope this quick explanantion has been somewhat helpful.

You can choose any saint's name that you want to. It does not have to be the saint of the day in which you enter the Church.

An Anna could celebrate either on September 9th, the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anna which is the day after the feast of the birth of their daughter the Theotokos Mary, or on July 25th the day of the repose of St. Anna.

September 9th on the calendar of the Orthodox Church does not fall on this Saturday, but on a Friday 13 days later, (September 22nd according to the Papal/secular calendar).
