I may be wrong fongoke, but for some reason I think it would be best if you forget about getting this iphone3g.
I suggest you get a couple of tin cans, punch a hole in the middle bottoms of each one, then attach a string between them by knotting the string's ends, that should make a dandy phone for you to use with your friends, and you'll also save money on the monthly phone bills which you could use for more important things.
Hope I have been of some help to you. Good luck.

He's showing more of a sense of humor than on previous topics, ahem!
I have no clue about iphones but I can't believe the outrageous expense that even lowest income willingly fork over, like $200 a month for a family, or what passes for a family these days, i.e. live-in non-spouse, children from various previous relationships !
God gave free will, but making wise decisions guided by your Guardian Angels and Saints is probably the best thing to pray for for all of us!
A right decision can bring so much good; whereas ones that humanly LOOK right are so far off base and lead to problems if not to disaster.
Hence maybe fongoke - sounds exotic, like a Szechuan dish or a back street in Kowloon! - why not to ask the gracious Queen of Heaven to direct you to the most truthful information about this topic [or all topics]. Maybe the answer could end up being the previous poster's take on it, or maybe there's really a utility to having these items, but please let us know what you find in the search, because we here may learn too. Thank you.
At least people like me who barely understand how to use the functions for a long-consigned-to-moth- balls-by-the-industry-cell-phone!
The other question is whether to wait longer for those iphones to have all the problems resolved; or are they OK now and it's only the monthly plan that is the drawback?
I was just thinking that while one may argue that they are a luxury; still they may benefit the Orthodox cause. For example, if you can easily phone or write to noble souls struggling in the outback let's say, for Traditional Orthodox or a similar causes, shouldn't it be worth the money. Or let's say, fongoke, you are on your way back from Church if you live near an acceptable one, and feel the urge to post an insightful comment on this site or a good blog, readers will be overjoyed at that. The happiness generated and the wisdom spread far outweighs the expense. All of us may assess such decisions from this angle too?
P>S>--Though this may not be ideal thread for technical topics, apologies if so, but speaking of Utility, I had been gearing up to ask this: does anyone know if the Norton Utilities program really does clean and speed a computer?--I am leery to waste money on fields I don't know about where can easily goof.

From personal experience, Norton is a pain. I get free or at least 'free to try' software from http://www.download.com
To some extent, keepng your computer 'clean' is what will speed it up. I do daily and weekly maintenance just to get rid of the build-up of 'temp files'. These 2 programs are a big part of that: http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/?tag=mncol and http://download.cnet.com/Defraggler/300 ... ?tag=mncol they are both free.

I hardly know too what an iphone is, too, Joasia, & first time I heard of an "app"-!
Thank you, Priest Mark, for that helpful lead.
Every week to clean up the computer? I never had any idea. Sounds very important to keep regular maintenance. I'm going to do my best, thanks again!
I guess that site wouldn't have the Upgrade for Windows 7 - maybe sometime later ? Do you have any idea?

Hello Catherine. Have you checked your computer's compatibility with Windows 7? That is a start. CNET.com or download.com has adds for where you can purchase W7, but it won't have it for download. It is getting good reviews, but history says it is smart to wait for a little while to see if there are bugs. Also, I could be wrong, but sometimes the price goes down after the initial flurry of interest passes. Check out this page: http://cnettv.cnet.com/
Hopefully the basic maintenance will get your computer back up to speed. CNET has forums for asking questions if you want some help. http://reviews.cnet.com/2001-12576_7-0.html
