Does this not describe the relationship of Old Calendarism to Orthodoxy as a whole?

Monothelitism, in its time, was rejected by a majority of Orthodox Christian hierarchs. In this day, when a similar conflict arises, I'd seek the majority opinion, whatever it may be.

Peace. [/quote]

Often, the "majority" opinion was in error. You really should read the lived of the Great Saints Athanasius, Photius, and Mark of Ephesus.

If "majority" is the point for you then, why do you not go with the Roman Catholic Church? :D

Matthew,

I'm sorry, but you are totally mistaken. Monotholetism was accepted by ALL the Orthodox patriarchs and the vast majority of its bishops. That is why St Maximos broke communion with EVERYONE and we know that he ended up being right.

In a like manner, ONLY St Athanasios stood firm against Arianism and semi-Arianism. He was exiled by what appeared at that time to be an ecumenical council.

Finally Matthew, during iconoclasm, the entire episcopacy in the East was iconoclast except for some resisting bishops.

That was my point, Matthew. It's not always the majority which is right.

Ooooo Matthew, by that logic, you should join our Church because a majority of the bishops in the Church accepted the Council of Chalcedon! ;)

I know that, historically, the Orthodox Church is the Church which Christ and the Apostles founded. Having said that, I refuse to have a conspiratorial view of the Church, that only a select few have the true faith, with all other Orthodox jurisdictions somehow in heresy.

Peace.

Don't you recall that I've already accepted Chalcedon, and desire my fellow Oriental Orthodox Christians to do the same? Christ commanded that the Church should be one. Sometimes, that might mean compromise with our fellow believers.

Peace.
