"the protestants"? There is not a "the" in this case and might one ask just who you might be thinking of when you write this? I and those I know certainly do not "focus" on an "actual cup". There may be stories out of folktales or pious legends, but that is not any tenet of any Protestant Church of which I am aware.

How does calling those who you think have such an idea "simpletons" help your view, btw? You have set up a strawman of "the protestants" and then called it a name that does not apply to real human beings. :(

May one ask what source you have for attributing EO/"Orthodox" piety to King Arthur as opposed to Christian piety? St. Patrick was a Romano-Britain and he predates the invasion by the Angles and the Saxons, so there Christianity, but it was long before such labels as "Orthodox" or "Catholic".

Hey Ebor,

I see that you and Tom come from Maryland. And you're both protestants. Do you go to the same protestant building? Did he call you in on this?

All of a sudden you pop up to attack me, in two threads. Ask any ORTHODOX person here if what I say is erroneous.

Protestants are an heretical division. Their teachings are erroneous and greatly lacking in spiritual truth. They do not have the Holy Spirit. And that's why you can't possibly understand what I and Angela know to be the truth; and not only ourselves, it's basic Orthodox theology.

When I say simpletons...what I mean is people who cannot possibly understand the true theology that only Orthodoxy holds. They will try to read some holy fathers, but be completely oblivious to what is being taught. They will scratch their heads and go into arguementative mode. Their pride is so large that they cannot ask for an explanation, out of real concerning for learning the truth, but will instead blast out with arguements without knowing the subject.

BTW. Why do you bother being in this forum. Do you see me going to a protestant forum and stirring up arguements there? What are you looking for?

And I don't see why the moderators would allow real Orthodox laity be constantly attacked by NON-BELIEVERS.

If you're here to learn about the truth, then don't attack and listen. If you just want to be a thorn in our sides...thorns can be removed.

Maryland has a fair sized population and many churches. I'm sorry, but you are mistaken in that TomS is Greek Orthodox (GOA) and I am Anglican. I do not believe that he has ever been to my parish, though I have had the occasion and honour of being at St. Sophia, DC on a couple of times. To repeat, there is no generic "protestant". Why would you think that some other person would "call me in" on this topic?

All of a sudden you pop up to attack me, in two threads. Ask any ORTHODOX person here if what I say is erroneous.

I come by here from time to time, though I haven't posted recently, since there hasn't been much going on besides Ekaterina's excellent "Truism" thread and a few other threads on which I have nothing to say.

How have I "attacked" you? Have I called you a name? Have I cast aspersions on you personally? Have I used harsh language or derogatory terms in addressing you, your group or your Church? Please show any cases where I have done so, and I will apologize.

How would not agreeing with someone else's assertion or asking for information on what they base it on be "attacking" them? How would asking about or objecting to you calling a group of other human beings "simpletons" be an "attack, please?

Protestants are an heretical division. Their teachings are erroneous and greatly lacking in spiritual truth.

Which protestant Churches and which teachings might you be thinking of? I suspect though that this is not the place for such an in depth discussion.

They do not have the Holy Spirit.

That is your belief.

And that's why you can't possibly understand what I and Angela know to be the truth; and not only ourselves, it's basic Orthodox theology.

I was asking about historical persons and events such as King Arthur and the coming to the British Isles of the Angles, Saxons and Jutes. That is not basic Orthodox Theology, that is history and legend. I think that I can understand that.

When I say simpletons...what I mean is people who cannot possibly understand the true theology that only Orthodoxy holds. They will try to read some holy fathers, but be completely oblivious to what is being taught.

Thank you for explaining what you meant. But do you know such people personally? I submit that you are making assumptions about what other humans do or do not do and their state of awareness or obliviousness.

They will scratch their heads and go into arguementative mode. Their pride is so large that they cannot ask for an explanation, out of real concerning for learning the truth, but will instead blast out with arguements without knowing the subject.

Argumentative mode? Asking for backup of assertions and sources and perhaps giving information that applies to a thread is "argumentative"? I have asked questions about a historical instance and about teachings about the Holy Grail. I can assure you that in my Church I have never heard any "focus" on a cup in that regard. How is one to gain information without asking questions? Not immediately going along with someone's statement is not necessarily "pride".

BTW. Why do you bother being in this forum. Do you see me going to a protestant forum and stirring up arguements there? What are you looking for?

Since I do not know what other forums, if any, you may visit, I could not say. I have never seen you (as Joasia) on any other forum, but it is possible that you are on others. But if you saw an Anglican or RC or Lutheran forum with threads making erroneous remarks about EO or not understanding something about your Church, might you be moved to correct the mistakes? If you read a thread that had mistakes about something that you know about, it is possible that you would attempt to give the true information.

As to what am I looking for or why I am here, correcting misapprehensions or giving factual information on different things has been part of it, with documentation as support as much as possible. Information about EO is another thing that I sometimes look for so that I can be aware of various jurisdictions and beliefs. Concern for some of the people here who show up in the prayer forum, is another.

And I don't see why the moderators would allow real Orthodox laity be constantly attacked by NON-BELIEVERS.

Again, how have I "attacked" you, please? I do not always agree with you, nor you with me. Is it then that you are "attacking" me with your disagreement? Also, there have been numerous threads here where there were "real Orthodox laity" who were saying the same things that I was in such things as the conspiracy thread, historical threads, the one about "Icons" of Stalin and others. Were they not attacking be reason of their being EO?

I am not EO, I am, however, a Christian believer.

If you're here to learn about the truth, then don't attack and listen.

And if asking questions is taken as an "attack" then how am I to learn what is the truth about some things, please? Why should people here be immune to questioning and taken as authorities merely because they belong to an EO Church?

If you just want to be a thorn in our sides...thorns can be removed.

??? A threat? It would be within the owner's right to remove someone for violating the rules of the forum. If you can point out any place that I have broken the rules I will endeavour to make amends and apologies.

I have no desire to be a "thorn" in anyone's side. If my questions bother some, one wonders why, since I am asking for clarification and not out of any malicious intent. Sometimes I have pointed out errors or called to question an assertion. That was not out of pride, but in the interests of having true information known.

With respect,

Ebor

Ebor,

One might wonder why have you come out now? You say that you quietly viewed this site for a while, but now you decide to speak up? This seems very interesting!!!Maybe there's more to this than meets the eye? MMM?

And the funny thing is that you have appeared on two of the sites that of course Tom is on, this one and laughter!

I beg your pardon, Angela, but as may be seen by my profile I have been on this board for about 2 1/2 years and have nearly 300 posts. It is not as though I have suddenly just now joined in.

This seems very interesting!!!Maybe there's more to this than meets the eye? MMM?

Well, what do you think it shows, please? Forgive me, but the above sentences seem to be implying or suggesting that there is an ulterior motive or something like that. I do not know what you might be suggesting. :?

And the funny thing is that you have appeared on two of the sites that of course Tom is on, this one and laughter!

In both threads assertions were made about historical persons/events. I was curious as to what were the sources for these ideas. If you look at some of my previous posts in other threads, you will find that historical matters are of interest.

Sincerely,

Ebor

Ebor,

I apologize. It was wrong of me to react that way. I was in a really bad mood when I wrote this. I should know better.
