Romanian Bishops and Met. Kyrikos

Post by ... »

XRISTOS ANESTI Fr. Mark!

Do you know who are these two Romanian bishops (Cassian and Gerontius) with whom Metr. Kyrikos is going to have prayer communion in a few days? Where did they come from? Do they have a valid Apostolic Succession ? They mentioned two bishops, Victor Leou and Nyphon, who performed episcopal consecrations by themselves...!

I have known of them for a few years now.

Romania, from a much persecuted group of faithful who have been a functioning community since the calendar change there. (Persecuted by both NCs and the Cyprianites in Slătioara.)

That is something for these two bishops and Metropolitan Kyrikos to work out between them.

And so? Why the exclamation mark? Why is this a cause for excitement for you?

Kallinikos,

It's not very easy to answer since the website that you posted is in Greek.

Do you have an English version?

This is what I could find about the TOC of Romania. However the names of these two Bishops (Vistor & Nyphon) are not mentioned. And by saying "they performed episcopal consecrations by themselves" I mean "single-handedly" , something that only Metr. Galaktion lawfully did.

Fr., since "you have known them for a few years now" can you provide us with some more "official" information about these bishops?

P.S : In the site you've posted (http://iasidnev.livejournal.com/185503.html) I read "in the presence of approximately one-and-a-half thousand laymen" (в присутствии около полутора тысяч мирян). Is this translation correst? And if it is, isn't it a little bit exaggerating? :?

Your blessings.

This is something that I've heard several minutes before, That yesterday , Met. Kyrikos went to Romania and conselebrated the Sunday of St. Thomas with these "Romanian bishops" .

What's the hurry..?

P.S : I found that there are evidenses that in the past they have given payoffs for getting consecrated as bishops (pure simony). Whilst they rebaptise anyone orthodox who's getting a member of their church (pure extremism). Also they have asked to be received under the omophorion of Archbishop Chrysostomos of Athens, but due to these reasons the greek Synod didn't want any relations with them.

Christ is Risen!

I am amazed that someone living in Greece, perhaps only 20 km from Metropolitan Kyrikos, won't simply make a local phone call to find out what has happened and why.

Here is a little of the Romanian history strangely missing from the sources you posted:
Bishop Victor (Leu) was consecrated in Munich Germany in 1949 by Metropolitan Seraphim of Berlin of the Autonomous Byellorussian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Stefan of Vienna of the Autonomous Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Bishop Filip of Potsdam also of the Autonomous Byellorussian Orthodox Church. Both the ABOC and the AUOC eventually came under ROCOR.

By himself, Bishop Victor consecrated one bishop in Romania, Nifon of Dobrogea, and they two consecrated two more; Clement and Cassian (who is the older of the two bishops alive now).

It looks like you need to study the Orthodox history of bishops being consecrated by a single bishop.

Why do you speculate that the number 1,500 is an exaggeration? It is an important enough event in the life of this church that they probably all wanted to attend. Whether there were 150 or 15 it was still a joyous and significant occasion.

You say, "What's the hurry..?" I say 'what hurry?' We have had official contact for more than 2 years. Both sides have prayerfully and carefully considered each other and now have joined as true Christian brothers, we share the same faith, what could be more joyous?

Sorry, that's all I have time for on my way to work this morning.
