can somebody help please

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Why, thanks, Father Mark - appreciate this insight. You're right, maybe I should hold off on W7. If you hear anything from your sources about its having unsuspected bugs, or not being as great as touted by the the mainstream reviewers, if you happen to think of it, could you clue us in here ? That would be great.
I'll wait to hear - and for the price to drop, I hope!

I am in no way a tech advisor or a trained expert. What I know about computers, as little as it is, has come from lots of reading and trial-n-error.

It may or may not be a simple thing. I do not know what you use your computer for, what kind of hardware you have connected and what other software you have installed. So, I do not know how much help I can be.

Microsoft has a compatibility page to help: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility
Why do you need this? Because you might have either hard or software that will not work on a Windows7 run computer.

Here also is the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 97c146af15
It will help you to find any compatibility issues.

It helps to be informed. I heard in one of the CNET videos that people need to know the computer is 'not just a toaster" :) $300 (the cost of Windows7) would be a lot to spend to change out the elements on a toaster, especially if it was still toasting sufficiently.
