So the evil deed was done by New Calendarists ?? I never once thought of that angle ! Are you implying they were Greek New Calendarists, then ? Or the Romanian who was believed to have been around Bro Jose on that fateful day ? Which anniversary is coming up pretty soon, just 20 days away.

What WAS the story of how he received the tonsure, if you have heard about that aspect ? Usually in accounts of Brother Jose's life, it's mentioned fast, with no real details given.

Well he was martyred in Greece by New Calendarists who wanted the icon, so as far as I am concerned he's in the calendar of Saints

Any sources for new calendarists murdering Br Jose of blessed memory?
